RE: REAL LT snow tires

Mastercraft--Courser makes LT snow tires. Have them for my truck already mounted on rims, just need to get to tire shop for them to install 'em.

RE: Ford Radiator Leaks recall???

Not made in China but unfortunately the sticker says, "Made in Mexico". I didn't think there was anybody left in Mexico to build anything. Good one Capt.!!

RE: 6.0 Ford PowerStroke longevity/reliablility

I've got a '03 6.0 with 101k on the odometer. However, the motor has approx 70k on it. Ford replaced it at their call when I had just over 30k on it due to bad bed rails/leaking oil. Re-man motor has the dreaded oil drip as well. That all being said, the ONLY things that have happened to this motor since it's installment are 3 inj and a EGR valve (supposidly) within a 6 week time frame. 2 inj went at same time (0 degrees w/snowmobile trailer attached) w/o warning. 3rd inj/EGR went when it was -15 degrees, but I had a bit of a skip prior to it going but dealer suggested I keep driving till I have a hard fail. Neither occasion produced a check engine light. BTW, when the 3rd inj/EGR went it was at 3am on a semi travelled road. Made for a bit of a cold wait for tow truck, but local police stopped by to check on me (after I called 911 to tell them I broke down and if a officer happened to be in the area, just to stop and check on me to make sure I was still okay). Other thing that happened to this motor was a turbo inlet hose ripped while towing rig in sig. Otherwise, this truck has met my expectations to a "T". I'd like to consider a 6.4, but none of my aftermarkets items will X-fer over, plus with new emission junk and lower mpgs...... So yes, I'm one of the few that is very happy with the truck, but not so with the hard time Ford has given me at times to get things done. We tow several times a year to a CG about 60 miles one way that has a 3 mile hill we have to pull. Does very well. Have travelled down I-81 thru PA, Virgina, TN and down the Ohio valley w/o any problems. Grossing approx 20+ pounds. Will be having the diff fluids changed next spring (came w/synth fluids) and tranny is done every 30k. Hope this helps you out. Any questions, feel free to PM me. AC

RE: Keeping mice out

RollinCool----ROFLMFAO!!! I hang moth ball cakes in several spots in coach. Also use drier sheets. Last year I forgot to do this and we ended up w/visitors over the winter. 2 previous winters no problem. Also placed stick'em traps and a couple snap traps out. Will keep fingers crossed and find out if I succeeded or not come March. AC

RE: Forum Connection Problems

I've had issues for a few weeks as well. Very frustrating when you type a reply only to have it get kicked out for I get booted off the system!!! The same owner also owns Snow Goer and i have the same problems at times on that site as well. However, there are times that that site is okay and TL's is not working right! BTW, we use Safari for are web server. AC

RE: Ford 6.0L Diesel news

I guess I shouldn't speak too loudly for fear of jinxing myself, but I've been very fortunate with my '03 6.0. In saying that let me point out a couple things: 1. Original motor had the dreaded oil leak/drip issue. Many attempts to fix to no avail. Ford replaced motor around 31k w/a re-man one. 2. Currently have just over 100k on odometer, but 70k on motor. Oil drip is still there. Lost 3 injectors within a 6 week span and supposidly a EGR was plugged (I beg to differ however). Everything else is still ORIGINAL!!! Overall, I'm very happy with this truck despite motor issues that I wish Ford would have done more to pasify me (Like offering the additional extended warranty). Get good mpg's towing, not towing, rides like a truck---cause it IS. Turbo boost is good according to dealer, no other leaks (have oil tested every other oil change). Yes, I'd like to go to the 6.4, but don't have the finances to do so, plus none of my aftermarket items will fit new body style. Plus really don't want to lose the mpg's on hiway. So while there may be quite a few with more problems than me, I feel that there is a vast majority out there with out problems or very few and the ones with problems make it out that every 6.0 is junk. Hey if someone is willing to make me a good offer for mine, I'll listen. ACZL

RE: Heaters

If hooked up to shore power, then why not get a electric space heater or 2? If NOT on shore power, don't know what to tell you.

RE: Tire shop says "No" for Mich Ribs???

Thanks for the response folks. Reason i inquired is that my axles are getting replaced by CC and they are sending me new Ironman tires for replacements as well. Not being real fond of what I've heard and read plus from what fellow CC RV club members have said, I'm very sceptical of these. CC says they haven't had many issues (like the one associated with the Ironman Hi-Run models) with this particular model of tire. RV will be going into storage after the axles are done, so I'll have the winter to mull things over. Now along the same lines of a tire question, why not use any LT rated tire of same size from any "X" manufacter? I've have really good luck with tires on pick up, so why not use them on RV? Reasons??? Thanks a whole bunch gang. ACZL

Tire shop says "No" for Mich Ribs???

I asked my tire shop about using Mich Rib tires on our coach. He stated that I couldn't for the beads won't seat right on the rim (something to do with auto rims being different than RV rims). He said they could order me some and try them but wouldn't guarantee them. Plus each one would be 260 bucks!!! With all that I read hear about folks using or switching to Mich, I wanted to know if somethings a miss or what.

RE: Cleaning Roof

I used S&S yesterday for the first time. I hand washed the rim around the roof where it overlaps the sides, then used a soft brush on the rest of the roof. Noticing a HUGE difference in the hand job, I proceeded to hand wash the entire roof. For once, I was wondering why I got such a big 5'er! :W Although it was a lot of work, it sure does look purdy now! Try doing the whole roof with HD Magic Erasers!!!!! Went thru about 45 pads and 2 days+ worth of scrubbing. Like you, end result was worth it.

RE: Diesel Newbie - Inspecting Oil

Quite frankly, the dealer should have changed it before you bought it. As for the oil sample, can get it done thru a big truck shop (CAT, Cummins, etc. ). Will costs about 15 bucks and contrairy to previous poster, it is NOT a waste of money for the test will show all levels of "X" metals, coolant, fuel etc that "could" be in the oil. Samples don't have to be done at every oil change. I do one about every 10-15k miles.

RE: Towing with 2008 Ford F250 Super Duty diesel

I'm really surprised that the new Fords w/ the 6.4 PSD weighs 8,800 pounds for a short box. By '03 comes in at 7700.

RE: Rubber Roof Cleaning

If you've got spots or stains, try a "Magic Eraser". However, if you do, get the HD ones from Home Depot/Lowes. I did my whole roof with them to get it pretty spotless and stain free. A big problem with the erasers is that they don't last very long at all! I ended up using about 40-45 pads for my entire roof. Lots of time/elbow grease and water to keep things clean and moist. This was a lot of work, but I felt better knowing it was clean and almost like new. So now I think I can get away with just regular washing again. Why did I go thru all this effort? Couple reasons. 1. When I first cleaned the roof very first time with cleaner from dealer, it looked great. Then I applied the UV sealant with same mop head that I used to clean it with. MISTAKE!!!!! Ended up basically re-applying dirt back down with the sealant. Subsequent cleanings never removed the "sealed"in dirt. 2. White reflects the sun better, so IMO, if the roof is fairly clean, it aids the A/C by reflecting the sun VS. absorbing it. Plus just a bit anal about having a clean/white roof.....looks better. ACZL

RE: Tell me about the new Cedar Creeks

102" is pretty much the norm for semi's. D.O.T. won't bother you for you're not a commercial hauler/transporter. If you have tow/camper mirrors on your truck, they are wider than 102" outside to outside. My snowmobile trailer is 102" wide and with it, I'm just 5' shorter than if I had the 5er on. Just need to be a bit more cautious when changing lanes, but once used to it, no problem. Have seen plenty of tv's that don't have mirrors to see behind them. Yikes, get me past them! On the CC's. Were you looking at the CC, Silverback or GII lines? The CC & Silverback pretty much mirror each other with slight changes to each floorplan. The CC has more std features, but the Silverback is VERY well equiped. Silverback is considered to be the entry line for CC, however IMO, it's a upper end entry line and it's priced a few grand below a regular CC. In fact, when we ordered ours, only added or changed 4 items! Other mfrs make many of the std items from CC & Silverback options. On the GII line, butt ugly nose cone, but supposed to net 3-5% better effieientcy. Dark wood int. Central docking station for water, cable. NO flat floor in basement which is open to front compartment. Raised floor extends to front as well. New graphics.

RE: Slip Plate/John Deere Graphite spray

Slip Plate is a vast improvement over that messy white lithium based grease. Converting to Slip Plate from grease requires extensive cleaning to remove all the grease. What's involved with the cleaning process? Will the Slip plate interfear with the slide lube white stuff grease? Also, is the slip plate for gear and teeth slide mechanizims? ACZL

RE: Skylight cover

I tried the velcro reflective covers. While they do work great, I could never get the glue to stick on the plastic. Even tried Super-glue. Ended up (via asking on here a couple years ago, going with a suggestion made be another member. Cut to length 2 "J" channels and attached to plastic plate on the underside of skylight using same screws as well. Then cut to fit some pexi-glass (get closest dimension as possible) mark w/straight edge, score w/sharp knife and snap off piece you don't need. Pexi-glass then slides into the "J" channel very tightly. Then we just slide the reflective pad on top of the pexi-glass. Does not make it totally dark, but can prop up if need be. Does a good job and glass doesn't slide out in transit. Pad may slide a bit, but that can't fall out either.
